Preliminary magazine task.

In this task i have created a front page for a school magazine.

Steps:

1. I created a green background which i used as it is one of the colours of the school so would go well within the creation of a school magazine.
2. I then cropped the picture of the boy shown on the magazine below and put him on the left hand side of the magazine. I put him on the left beacuse in many other magazines such as Empire they have someone on the left looking from right to left. Also the stance that he is in puts him an ideal position to do this.
3. Next i put the picture of school shot on the background and tilted it slighlty. I did this because in a magazine you rarely find a uniform picture on the front cover beacuse this is generally seen on the front cover of Newspapers and Newsletters. The tilited slant gives the impression to the reader that this is a magazine and not a formal newspaper.
4. The next thing i did was add the title the title was done using the font of Ultra Serif SF i did this because it was a bold title and would attrct the attention of the person looking at this also it stands out and would therefore be easily recognisable on a shelf of a shop.
5. The next step i took was to add the subtitles to the front page such as "School Closes" and "New Equipment." I did these subtitles in many different font sizes and fonts to attract the attention of the reader. Again i used a colour scheme of  black and purple as they are colours of the school. They were tilited slighlty to attract the attention and again you rarely find a magzine were there isn't any evidence of this.
6. I inserted a bar code using clipart to enable the price to be scanned when the magazine is being sold.
7. I added some extra desighn features to the magazine which can be seen by the purple bar leading up the left side and the same thing going across the middle.

Overall i think thank the school Prliminary magazine front cover attracts attention due to the colour scheme and due to the layout of the magazine. Such as the tilted titles and the bold name of the magazine. The front page also gives out information about what is in the magazine.

School magazine ideas.

For the preliminary magazine front cover and contents page i analysed well known magazine covers and contents pages to see what vthe layout of these would be.

For example these included the big issue,empire and heat magazine.

Ideas that i saw in these magazines were:

• What type of headline that the magazine had which was generally a large headline with bold subtitles which were there to grab the attention of the person looking at it.
• The magazine had a colourful front page which also was there to grab the attention.
• The picture was large and grabbed attention aswell.
• the price and barcode of the magazine was in the bottom right corner or the bottom left corner of the magazine.
• They generally have a logo in the top right hand corner of there magazine which makes them easily distinguishable from other magazines.
• The colours contrast with the pictures that are shown on the magazine as the person viewed in this case is very easily distinguishable.

For my magazine that i looked at to get information for my first draft of the prelimnary school magazine i used the magazine Empire which is a film review magazine.
